Know the bias before you trust the byline.

LeanMarx is a crowd-sourced bias rater for the articles you read. One click in your browser, one rating, locked in. Then see how the crowd reads the same piece. No comments. No arguments. Just the number.

Free for verified students & faculty (.edu). Everyone else can request access below.

One scale, 1 to 9

Every article gets a community average from Maximum Left to Maximum Right. The deeper the blue, the further left; the deeper the red, the further right; purple is balanced.

  1. 1 Maximum Left
  2. 2 Left Wing Propaganda
  3. 3 Left Biased
  4. 4 Left Leaning
  5. 5 Well Balanced
  6. 6 Right Leaning
  7. 7 Right Biased
  8. 8 Right Wing Propaganda
  9. 9 Maximum Right

How it works

1

Read anything

Open any article. Click the leaning-L button in your browser toolbar.

2

Rate & lock in

Pick where it lands on the 1–9 scale and confirm. Your rating is locked — one per article, no take-backs.

3

See the crowd

Only after you commit do we reveal the community average — so the crowd never sways your read.

Who can join

To keep ratings honest, LeanMarx is currently limited to verified academic accounts. If you have a .edu email, you can sign up directly. Otherwise, request access and we’ll review it.
